Jennings Evans Smith Island Collection
Introduction
Born on December 9, 1930, Jennings Lee Evans, Sr. was the only son of Benjamin and Pauline Evans. Jennings was a US Army veteran and proudly served our country in the Korean War. When he returned from the service, he worked on the water & was the owner of two boats, the “Sequoia” & the “Rogatora”.
Jennings was the island historian and published newspapers for the island called “The Island Times”. He was a member of the Ewell United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Ewell Men’s Quartet. He was an honorary lifetime member ofthe Ewell Volunteer Fire Dept. and served on the board of the museum on the island.
His research and documentation on the people and history of the island community was lent to the Library for digitization, and the collection is presented here.
